Since
their inception as a quiet, well-behaved acoustic trio back
in 2003, Magicfolk have become increasingly rambunctious and
erratic with the addition of bass, drums, lead guitar and lots
of synths.
Seven-piece Magicfolk
are leading purveyors of contemporary esoteric psych-folk. They
produce their own blend of folk, rock, celtic and prog-rock
with rich vocal harmonies and an assortment of instruments,
in songs with folklore & mystic leanings.
They've been likened
to Mellow Candle, Jethro Tull, Clannad, Stone Angel, Dead
Can Dance, Tir Na Nog, Jefferson Airplane, Trees, Midwinter,
Mostly Autumn, White Willow
“Genuinely
something new for fans of esoteric folk, their lyrics sing of
folklore and magic, evoking the mystery within the music"
- Woven Wheat Whispers |

convincing" - Radioshow
Psyche Van Het Folk Belgium
Founding members Ben and Michelle
are influenced by ‘70s legends like Jethro Tull, Jefferson
Airplane, Bowie, Dead Can Dance.
Miki and his prog-rock keyboard
playing brings a welcome Eastern European flavour to the band.
Andy contributes psychedelic
and rock lead guitar lines in the style of his favourites
like Led Zeppelin.
Jo and Amber bring a folk &
jazz touch with sax & flute, and Clive gets his kicks
from Greek and South American drum rhythms.
“Prog
rock, celtic tunes and tight vocal harmony, spiked with prickly
electric guitar. If you like Fairport Convention, Jethro Tull
and Jefferson Airplane, you won’t be disappointed”
- Pagan Dawn Magazine

Magicfolk play gigs
far and wide, from the 3 Wishes Faery Festival on Bodmin Moor
where they supported Circulus and the Mediaeval
Baebes, to places such as Priddy Folk Festival and London's
Conway Hall at the Beltane Bash.
This year sees them headlining
the Folk & Roots Festival in Manchester's fast-growing
psychfolk scene, and across to Gloucester at the esoteric
Druid Camp.
"Delicately
spun... visiting the perfumed garden of psychedelia"
- Rock’n’Reel
Magazine
Last year Magicfolk
launched their debut album which is available direct from
this website (see 'Shop' page) - or as a download from Woven
Wheat Whispers.
They will be starting
work on a second album later this year where they may well
go slightly more deranged and psychedelic than usual...

Mythology, folklore,
mysticism and nature - or sometimes just downright weirdness
- are the inspirations for Magicfolk.
"The
world is incomprehensible. We won't ever understand it; we
won't ever unravel its secrets. Thus we must treat it as it
is, a sheer mystery...
They put these ideas
into contemporary settings with strong rock rhythms and melodies,
as well as more restful atmospheric and ambient moods.
"Assume
responsibility for being here, in this marvelous world, in
this marvelous desert, in this marvelous time... make every
act count, since you are going to be here for only a short
while, in fact, too short for witnessing all the marvels of
it...
The odd android
also makes the occasional appearance.
"The
things that people do cannot under any conditions be more
important than the world. And thus a warrior treats the world
as an endless mystery and what people do as an endless folly...
"This,
whatever you're doing now, may be your last act on earth.
It may very well be your last battle... You have no time,
my friend, no time. None of us have time." Don Juan -
